Colorado Light Works is a Denver-based studio featuring kiln-formed glass and watercolor art from Eric Jorgensen.

Biography

Eric Jorgensen is a kiln-formed glass and watercolor artist who lives and creates in his native city of Denver, Colorado.

Originally starting in watercolor, Eric believed in vibrant color: “If you’re going to all the trouble to create a painting, put some paint on the paper.”

Working primarily in landscapes, he branched out into abstracts where he uses his technical background skills such as drafting to inform his work, with lots of geometric shapes and patterns.

Eric likes to work with contrasts: soft and hard edges, shiny vs. dull, dark and light, bright colors up against subdued colors. This creates drama and opens up a world of possibilities.

He has exhibited along the front range, from Denver to Castle Rock.

Artist Statement

My instinct is to create natural, rhythmic forms, often by combining geometric patterns with organic elements. I work mainly in kiln-formed fused glass and watercolor, and generally prefer large wall-sized abstracts.

I find that my art mirrors life in general in that there is a desire to find balance between planning and the “happy accidents” that make life worth living. These opposing forces drive me. This is both true in watercolor, where the paints will blend on the page as they will, and in glass, which will melt and move in the kiln as it will.

Inspiration comes from both the natural environment, and by our current economic and political environments.
